Smart Dehumidifier – Which One is Right For Your Home?
Whether you live in a damp flat or struggle with a steamy kitchen, a dehumidifier can help you nip humidity problems in the bud. Humid air is more difficult to breathe, especially for those with asthma or other respiratory problems. Having a dehumidifier installed will allow you to breathe easy and enjoy your home all year round.
The right dehumidifier for your home will depend on a number of factors, such as its extraction rate and water tank capacity. During our tests, we ran each product in our controlled test chamber, measuring its energy consumption and determining how much moisture it could extract from the air in a day, as well as its water tank capacity to see how often you’d have to empty it. We also tested for how well it sucked up condensation and whether or not it had a laundry mode to dehumidify your clothes while you do the washing.
Most dehumidifiers use compressor technology which works by drawing in the air, running it over cold coils that condenses the moisture and collecting it into a water tank. This process can only work if the air is warm enough to do so, so they tend to be most effective at a temperature of around 20degC. It’s worth remembering that you may have to empty the water tank quite frequently depending on how humid your home is. We weighed the dehumidifiers when empty to see how much they each held, and looked at how much they cost per hour to run (based on energy prices currently capped at 27p/kWh). It’s also worth considering how noisy or quiet you would like your dehumidifier to be as it will affect its operation. smart dehumidifier uk
